Top PR Tips
- Set clear PR objectives: Who do you want to notice your business? What do you want them to notice about your business? PR objectives should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed
- Develop a PR plan: What are you going to do? How are you going to do it? Who is going to do it? When are they going to do it? How will you know if it's working?
- Research your target media
- Utilise any natural opportunities for PR e.g: New product launches; Opening new premises; Hiring new staff
- Make some news e.g: Conduct a survey; Hold an event; Carry out a stunt
- Let people know about your news by developing and distributing a media release
- Know the publication you are sending your release to, make sure the information is of genuine interest to their readers and is not just what you want to tell them
- Follow-up your release with a phone call. Always check with the journalist that they are the right person to talk to and that it's a convenient time to talk, keep your call as brief as possible
- Always deliver what you promise, on time. Check what deadline the journalist is working to and respond on time
- Don't give up! If your story isn't picked up, try to work out why. Monitor your target media to find out what kind of stories they cover and tailor your stories appropriately
